Trustee Area Map

In 2020 our School Board adopted district elections, meaning each of the five Trustees is elected by voters in one of five subregions of the SVUSD geographic area. Prior to this, Trustees were elected by ALL voters in the SVUSD jurisdiction. Due to CA’s Voting Rights Act, enacted in 2001, most local elections are now required to have districts.

When this change first took place, there were five elementary schools in SVUSD, one in each of the districts. Many people considered the Trustees to be associated with that elementary school. For instance, the District 1 Trustee was “Dunbar’s Trustee,” the District 2 Trustee was “Flowery’s Trustee,” etc. Now there are only three elementary schools in SVUSD, leaving District 1 and District 5 without an associated elementary school in their area. However, those Trustees still represent the students and families (and taxpayers and voters) who reside in their district boundaries.

Candidates must reside in the district where they run, and boundaries must be redrawn periodically to ensure that equivalent numbers of registered voters reside in each district. The map at the link below shows the current district boundaries.

In 2026, Areas 1 and 2 will have elections.

  • Area 1 Trustee Catarina Landry ran opposed and was elected to her first four-year term in 2022.

  • Area 2 Trustee Gerardo Guzman was appointed in April 2025 to fill a vacancy after Celeste Winders resigned halfway through her first term on the board. Guzman was selected by the board from a pool of six candidates seeking to fill the vacancy.

In 2028, Areas 3, 4 and 5 will have elections.

  • Area 3 Trustee Jason Lehman ran unopposed and was elected to his first four-year term in 2024.

  • Area 4 Trustee David Bell was appointed by the board in September 2024 to fill a vacancy after Troy Knox resigned to become SVUSD’s Director of Special Education. That vacancy expired in December of 2024 and Bell ran unopposed in the general election, securing him the seat for a full four-year term.

  • Area 5 Trustee Anne Ching ran unopposed in 2024 and was elected to her second four-year term. Ching’s first election in 2020 unseated an incumbent.
